"66-136" is the codename given to an otherwise unnamed Chinese prototype assault rifle.
History[]
In 1966, the Chinese government ordered an assault rifle development project. The 66-136 was one of the entrants, its name coming from its development project codename.
Overview[]
The 66-136 uses a delayed blowback operation that uses a two-piece rotating bolt with rear locking lugs. It lacks the gas piston.
The project was cancelled because the operation required high tolerances and fine machining. Chinese ammo manufacturers were also not capable of making clean burning propellant 7.62x39mm rounds with the pressure the delayed blowback operation required.
