The 9A-91 is a carbine derivate of the AS Val, designed by the KBP Instrument Design Bureau.

History

The rifle was designed for a cheaper alternative of both the SR-3 Vikhr and VSS Vintorez. The gun is part of the A-91 family with had multiple rifles in differents cartridge with only the 9×39mm was successful.[1]

Design

The carbine is gas operated and select-fired, it uses the 9×39mm especially use the SP-5, SP-6, and PAB-9 (A cheaper alternative to the SP-6).[1]

The design makes the gun lighter than the AS Val, like using polymer, however, this doesn't make the gun free of metal as there are metal stamps in the receiver.[2]

It has the selector on the trigger guard and below that there is the magazine release. And the charging handle is on the right side of the receiver, which was initially forged with the receiver, but the modern version can be folded.[3]

Other features are a metal stock that is foldable, an optional suppressor, and compatible with the GP-95 grenade launcher.[1]

Variants

VSK-94

A Designated marksman rifle variant is feated with a suppressor and a skeleton stock.[4]
