The 9x51mm SMAW (Shoulder-Launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon)/MK 217 Mod 0 is a spotting rifle cartridge used in the LAW 80 rocket propelled grenade anti tank weapon.

The 9x51mm SMAW is a low pressure cartridge used in the disposable one shot LAW 80 launcher. When issued, the first round in the 5 round magazine is chrome plated to resist corrosion in long term storage.
Overview[]
The 9x51mm SMAW is a hollow 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge necked up to use a 9mm projectile with trace canister. The round uses a .22 Hornet blank for its powder charge. When firing, the .22 blank round moves rearwards out the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge unlocking the breech of the spotting rifle as primer actuated blowback.
