The AAI XM70 is an American assault rifle prototype.
History[]
The XM70 was developed from the earlier XM19, a rifle which AAI developed under a low profile after the SALVO project ended; only one prototype was ever made. The weapon was chosen as a contender for the Future Rifle System program, but the SBR was chosen instead due to the XM70's high manufacturing costs. In testing, the sole XM70 had performed very poorly, firing only six bursts before failing.
Design details[]
The rifle is based on the earlier XM19, and is functionally identical. The differences lie in a number of simplifications, such as a simplified trigger group, and an open bolt instead of closed bolt fire.
