The Armalite AR-30 is a bolt-action rifle manufactured by Armalite. It is basically a scaled down version of the Armalite AR-50 and chambers three cartridges: .308 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum, and .338 Lapua Magnum. It was introduced at the 2000 SHOT show.

History[]

The AR-50 was introduced at the 2000 SHOT Show as an attempt by Armalite to showcase their sniper rifles.

Design Details[]

The AR-30 weighs 12 pounds when empty. It features a 26-inch chrome-moly barrel, 6-groove, Right Hand 1:10 inch twist and is 46 inches in overall length. The receiver is in modified octagonal form, and is drilled and slotted for a scope rail. the bolt is a dual front locking lug. The trigger is a Schilen standard single stage with an approximately 5 pound pull. a muzzle brake is optional on the .308 and .300 models, but comes standard on the 338 model. the scope rail is mil-spec with boss to engage cross slot on the receiver. the Stock comes in three sections; extruded forend, machine grip frame with vertical grip, and forged removable buttstock. The buttplate is vertically adjustable and is built for heavy calibers.

Ammunition[]

The AR-30 Uses .308 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum, and .338 Lapua Magnum. However, the AR-30a1 does not accept .308 Winchester. It features a 5-round detachable box magazine.

There are two variants of the AR-30.

AR-30a1[]

In November 2012, Armalite announced that they would replace the AR-30 with the AR-30a1. The AR-30a1 is completely redesigned from the AR-30 and shares few parts. the new a1 model is available in just two calibers- .300 Winchester Magnum and .338 Lapua Magnum. Both chamberings are available in two sub variants- Standard, which has a fixed buttstock, and Target, which includes a wheel-adjustable stock and enhanced sight and accessory rails.

AR-31[]

Armalite announced the creation of the AR-31 in 2013. It is a short action rifle based off of the AR-30a1. The initial rifle is chambered in .308 Winchester.
