The Beretta Modello 1917, commonly known as the Beretta Model 1917 or M17, was an Italian pistol designed in 1915 by Tullio Marengoni and produced from 1917 to 1943 by Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta. The pistol served as one of the standard Italian service pistols during World War I and World War II.

History[]

The M17 was likely designed alongside the M15 and was designed as a smaller version of the M15[1] that was also intended to be exported or sold to civilians.

The M17 saw use with the Regio Esercito and various other forces and was also sold to civilians. The weapon ended production in 1943 after some 50,000 were produced.

Design Details[]

The Model 1917 is a simple blowback pistol using six-round single-stack magazines. The pistol has one safety on the left side of the receiver.[1]Essentially, the M17 was a smaller version of the M15 chambered for .32 ACP. The barrel has six right-handed grooves.
