Breda Meccanica Bresciana, also known as Breda Fucili or simply Breda, is a big Italian firearms manufacturer located in Brescia, Italy.

History[]

The original Società Italiana Ernesto Breda was a locomotive and railway manufacturer founded in Milan in 1886 by Ernesto Breda. Starting from World War I, Breda began producing armaments for the Italian military. During World War II, Breda produced a large variety of weapons, light artillery and aircraft for the Italian military. Most famous of these were the Breda machine guns, which were standard for Italian forces through the war.

In 1962, Società Italiana Ernesto Breda was nationalized. Società Italiana Ernesto Breda was liquidated in the 1990s. The train manufacturing division was fused with Italian engineering firm Ansaldo Trasporti, forming AnsaldoBreda (now Hitachi Rail Italy) while the armaments division became an independent entity known as Breda Meccanica Bresciana. Breda today is mostly known for producing hunting shotguns and firearm accessories.
