A Chain feed is a variant of belt-fed mechanism, wherein a breech-fed weapon is fed via a series of preloaded chambers with articulated links, as opposed to a true belt which is used to link cartridges. The most notable examples of this are the chain rifles and pistols which were developed as one of several attempts to bypass patents related to revolver cylinders.
