David Dardick was a Russian-born American inventor who developed the Dardick tround.

History[]

Born in Russia to a Jewish family, Dardick emigrated to the United States and developed an interest in arms and ammunition. He became a close associate of the rifle designer Melvin Johnson and was also partially involved in the conception of the Dror light machine gun. In the late 1940s, Dardick invented a type of triangular ammunition that he called the "Tround", and in 1954 he would developed his titular Dardick pistol to fire his unique munition. In the mid-1950s, Dardick established the Dardick Corporation to act as a marketing organ for both his firearm and his ammunition, however this venture ended in significant financial failure, with incredibly low sales resulting in the bankruptcy of the company in 1962.[1]

Dardick nonetheless continued to work on his ammunition, and assisted the arms company Harrington & Richardson in the development of the SPIW rifle for the Special Purpose Individual Program in 1967, although this weapon was ultimately never adopted by the military. He was also known to have worked with TRW Inc. and later founded another company known as Tround International in an attempt to continue promoting his "Tround" concept. Dardick's last known patent was filed in 1987.[2] He died in New York in 1999, aged 88.[3]
