Eduard Alexander Rubin was a Swiss engineer, arms designer and company director.
History[]
Rubin was born in Thun in 1846, studing mechanical engineering at ETH Zurich and at a similar institute in Karlsruhe, graduating in 1869. He was then promoted to director of Eidgenössische Munitionsfabrik Thun, now known as RUAG Ammotec, in 1879; he also designed his own ammunition, 7.5×55mm Swiss, as well as the full metal jacket. He collaborated with Rudolf Schmidt to design a straight-pull bolt-action rifle.
In addition to his posts at the Thun munitions factory, Rubin was also a municipal councilor. He served as director to the factory at Thun until his death in 1920.

Rubin is known to have invented the 7.5×55mm Swiss and 5.2×68mm Rubin cartridges, the full metal jacket, the Rubin-Fornerod ignition system for artillery pieces and collaborated with Rudolf Schmidt to design the Schmidt-Rubin rifle.
