The Saive submachine gun was a Belgian prototype submachine gun produced by FN Herstal.

History[]

This submachine gun was conceived during the post-war period by Dieudonné Saive, the chief designer at FN Herstal. FN marketed the weapon in the late 1940s but failed to find any buyers. The weapon was never put into full production.

Design[]

The Saive submachine gun was a basic blowback-operated, selective-fire submachine gun. It had a jacketed barrel with a four-slot compensator and a large adjustable rear aperture sight. The standard model had a wooden stock, but a variant was also produced, probably for French military trials, which included a wireframe folding stock and a folding magazine.
