The Franchi LF-58 is a carbine of Italian origin chambered in .30 Carbine. Influenced by the German StG 44 Assault rifle, the weapon is gas operated and comes with a side-folding wire stock similar to the that of the Franchi LF-57. The LF-58 was developed in competition with the Beretta Model 57.
Despite the standardization of the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, development continued under the assumption that the NATO cartridge would take some time to reach wide scale use. The LF-58 would never be put into mass production and see use outside of testing.
The design of the LF-58 was later scaled up to 7.62x51mm, creating the Franchi LF-59.
