The LF-59 is a battle rifle of Italian origin. It is chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO and has a similar appearance to the FN FAL. The design is derived from the earlier Franchi LF-58.

Design details[]

It is operated by a long-stroke gas piston, which is directly connected to the bolt carrier. The bolt pivots upward when the carrier and piston start to travel backward, unlocking itself when the pressure had dropped to a safe level, much like an StG 44.
