The Francotte Automatic was a Belgian pocket pistol that was produced by Auguste Francotte & Cie.

History[]

This pistol was the only self-loading automatic pistol to be designed by the Liège gunsmith Auguste Francotte, who was primarily known for his high-quality revolvers. It was introduced in 1912 but was only in production for a very short period, as by 1914 Francotte's business was closed by the German occupation troops during World War I.

Design[]

The Francotte Automatic pistol was a 6.35mm, blowback-operated pistol that used an unconventional type of frame which included a sealed section at the upper rear end of the gun, where a slide would normally be. Instead, the slide was placed further to the front end of the gun, riding over the barrel. The slide carried the bolt. The recoil spring was placed below the barrel and was compressed by a lug under the bolt. The pistol fed from a 6-round magazine.
