For a topic to receive a separate article (or an article for that matter), it should be notable. If an article does not meet this guideline, it may be proposed for deletion or discussed. In most cases, the information in articles that fail the notability test should be included elsewhere; this guideline is only concerned with unnecessary topics getting entire articles.
This guideline is here primarily to aid the process of maintaining a well defined article structure, rather than protecting the Wiki from any significant threat. This page is not the be-all and end-all of notability, but rather the community will form consensus on a case by case basis. However, following this page gives your article the best chance for success.
Guidelines
The following are some guidelines about what can be covered (this is a non-exhaustive list):
- All types of firearms are covered. (i.e. AR-15, AK-47)
- Firearms designers with at least some information are covered. (i.e. Eugene Stoner, Mikhail Kalashnikov) This same rule applies to companies. (i.e. Heckler & Koch, Colt)
- While there are some minor designers as well (i.e. Harold Turpin, Tullio Marengoni), their fame and information available takes precedence in their notability. This same rule applies to companies. (i.e. Garni-ler)
- Articles that are specific to their subject take precedence in notability.
- Things that are related to military and gun ownership but only tangential to guns may not be considered notable. (i.e. US Army, Tiger 1)
Anything that falls outside the aforementioned criteria may be considered for speedy deletion or nominated for deletion.
