The Halbek device was a clamp-on muzzle compensator of Rhodesian origin and used on FN FAL battle rifles during the Rhodesian bush war. Known as a “blitz breeker” (Afrikaan for flash breaker), it had the advantage of firing the weapon in a fixed prone position making it very stable, and the gas would be directed upward an consequently keep the dust signature down.
