The SMG11 (unofficial designation) was a prototype submachine gun designed by Heckler & Koch.

Overview[]

The SMG11 was a 9mm submachine gun developed in the early 1970's. Heckler & Koch were, at the time, researching possible scopes for the G11, but the G11 itself had not been produced, nor had it's caseless ammunition. In order to work around this, they created the SMG11 as a stand-in for the G11. Internally, it was a conventional 9mm weapon, but externally it was designed to replicate the G11's design. A number of scopes were tested on the SMG11, including a reflex sight and an infrared scope. Otherwise, Heckler & Koch had no plans for this weapon, and it became obsolete when the first fully-functioning G11 prototypes were produced.
