The HG-40 was an experimental grenade launcher designed by UK-based firearms company Hilton.

Overview[]

The HG-40 is an underbarrel 40mm grenade launcher that was designed to be used in conjunction with the SA80 assault rifle. It was designed in the late 1980's. The HG-40 had a 40mm rifled barrel which was done in house by hand which made it very accurate. It was also mounted on to the Steyr AUG and Heckler and Koch rifles. It performed well during Government trials, and won over the Heckler & Koch grenade launcher which exploded during the drop test when dropped from a building. However, money talks, and Heckler and Koch got the contract.
