The IMI Tavor TAR-21 is an assault rifle designed by IMI to replace the Galil, M16A1 and CAR-15 assault rifles. The Tavor was created to be an extremely reliable assault rifle for use in urban environments. It was ambitiously named as TAR-21 - "Tavor Assault rifle for 21 century".

The Tavor incorporates the best modern firearm engineering achievements into a single next generation Infantry Weapons system. The Tavor is a polymer weapon in a bullpup configuration with all of the weight against the shoulder for faster movement in the urban environments that troops find themselves in more often. The Tavor is much shorter than previous assault rifles while maintaing full barrel length. The TAR-21 is chambered in 5.56mm NATO and 9mm. The Micro Tavor variant can be chambered in 9mm and fitted with a suppressor. The Tavor has a 30 round magazine and can accept NATO Stanag magazines. The Tavor is capable of using the same attachments as all standard assault rifles. The rifle comes with a integrated MARS reflex sight attached to the barrel, but is capable of accepting any sight. This integrated sight allows for the addition of a night sight or magnifier without rezero-ing the sight. The Tavor is also extremely reliable, having over the beach capabilites, which means that it can be submerged in water and still be able to fire without exploding.
