The KSVK 12.7[note 1], also known as the ASVK[note 2] or the SVN-98[note 3], is a Russian anti-materiel rifle.
Construction[]
Technically, it is a 5-round rifle with the sliding bolt action, compiled by the bullpup scheme. The KSVK can use 12.7x108mm sniper ammunition, though standard 12.7x108mm ammo can also be used. The rifle is fed from a 5-round detachable box magazine. The magazine well is behind the pistol grip, making it a bullpup weapon. The magazine has a plastic plate, which acts as a support for the left hand of the user. The rifle's ejection port is situated on the right side of the weapon, and is protected with a dust cover when not in use. The barrel is of the "floating" type, is mounted cantilevered in the receiver and does not make contact with other parts of the rifle, made by cold forging. The muzzle brake, that is mounted on the barrel, reduces the recoil force by 2.5 times. The butt plate is sprung to absorb shock. This allows the shooter to make a few dozen shots without experiencing any discomfort in his shoulder.
Purpose and combat characteristics[]
Despite its barrel length being 1000 millimeters (39.4 inches), it is a relatively compact weapon with an overall length of 1420 millimeters (55.9 inches), due to it being a bullpup. This makes it much shorter than the OSV-96, with the OSV-96 having a length of 1700 millimeters (66.9 inches). When shooting, a bipod is used to stabilize the weapon; the bipod also folds up for storage.
Ammunition[]
When used, a 12.7x108mm cartridge with an instant action incendiary bullet (MDZ) can be used, though B-32 armor-piercing bullets and BZT-44 armor-piercing incendiary bullets can also be used as alternatives. The energy of a B-32 bullet is enough to break through regular army body armor at its maximum range, 2000 meters (6561.7 feet). At smaller distances, the bullet can hit and destroy lightly armored targets.
Sights[]
The rifle is equipped with iron sights, which include front and rear sights, mounted on the sight leaf, which can also be used as a handle for carrying the rifle. When mounting the optical sight, this sight leaf leans to the right. The rifle uses standard optical day and electro-optical night sights. Optical and night sights are set on the Piccatinny rail, on the top of the receiver. Its most widely used sights are the POS 13x60 and POS 12x54 telescopic sights.
