The Kale Kalıp KNT-308 (Keskin Nişancı Tüfeği 308, lit. ".308 sniper rifle") is a Turkish prototype bolt-action sniper rifle.
History[]
The KNT-308 was designed to supposedly be the first domestically produced sniper rifle in Turkey, as claimed by Kale Kalıp.[1] However, this claim appears to be untrue as the JNG-90 began production about a year prior; why Kale Kalıp claims this appears to be a response to a comment a Colt staff member said when a Kale Kalıp staff member visited their plant and said their weapons were not "unique" in a sense.[2]
The rifle was designed in 2008[1] and showcased at IDEX 2009 in Abu Dhabi. The rifle when showcased was billed to be 30% lighter and 20% more effective than its contemporaries;[3] however, the weapon does not appear to have entered serial production at all.[2]
Design Details[]
The KNT-308 is a simple bolt-action sniper rifle which fires the 7.62×51mm round. The design of the weapon heavily resembles that of the Accuracy International Arctic Warfare, although the KNT-308 is claimed to be designed entirely in-house.
As mentioned above, the rifle claims to be lighter and more accurate than its predecessors.[1] The ability for the rifle to fold into two pieces appears to be a major marketing point for this rifle; how effective that was as a marketing strategy remains unknown.
