The Konstantinov SA-1 (Cyrillic: Aвтомат СА-1 Avtomat SA-1) is a prototype Soviet assault rifle.
History[]
The SA-1 was designed by Alexander Konstantinov who was working at ZiD at the time, who wanted to make a rifle that was comfortable in off-hand full-auto shooting. To achieve this, the SA-01 was designed as an "inverted bullpup", where the pistol grip was placed above the receiver. This design was deemed too unwieldy and radical, and as such the weapon was evolved into the SA-001, which was a more conventional weapon.
Design Details[]
The weapon was fed from a 30-round box magazine. Its pistol grip was located above the receiver, making for an odd look.
