The LMT MWS is an AR-style rifle, manufactured by Lewis Machine and Tool (LMT). It is a precision rifle chambered for 7.62×51mm NATO.

L129A1 Sharpshooter Rifle, 7.62×51mm NATO variant issued with 6x ACOG with a RMR sight on top and back-up iron sights. It also features folding forearm, Harris bipod, tan colored furniture, and quick changing barrels in various lengths.

The MWS is a fairly recent development from LMT, and takes quite a few details from the design of the Knights Armament Company SR-25. The rifle has been fielded by the British Armed Forces and the New Zealand Army as the L129A1.

Design details[]

The LMT MWS is a lightweight, magazine-fed, gas-operated, air-cooled, shoulder-fired weapon chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO. Like most AR-type rifles, it features an inline gas piston system which operates on expanding gas, using the pressure generated by the gas inside the hollowed-out bolt carrier to cycle the weapon, and the action is a rotating bolt, locked breech design. The upper receiver, the magazine well, and the magazines themselves are longer to accommodate the longer 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, and the upper receiver is of a monolithic design (the actual upper receiver is integral with the forend). The 16-inch barrel is free-floated, which is conducive to greater precision.

The MWS will take SR-25 magazines, as well as the older AR-10 waffle magazines. It will not accept newer AR-10 magazines.

Manual of arms[]

The LMT MWS is a lightweight, gas-operated, magazine-fed, air-cooled, shoulder-fired weapon. They feed from box magazines, with a capacity of 20 rounds. They operate much like AR-15, AR-10, SR-15, and SR-25 rifles.

The MWS, like all AR variants, features a bolt catch mechanism that holds the bolt open upon firing the last round in the magazine.

The magazine is inserted straight into the magazine well, and firmly pushed until a "click" is heard. Give the magazine a slight tug to make sure it does not come out. If the bolt is locked open, simply press the serrated "paddle" portion of the bolt catch in with the thumb to close the bolt and chamber a cartridge. If the bolt is closed, pull the charging handle to the rear and let it slingshot forward.

At this point, turn the selector switch to FIRE, and fire the weapon.

Once the magazine is empty, the bolt will lock open. It is good practice to always check the chamber for any obstructions prior to reloading.

The MWS can also be chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, .260 Remington, .243 Winchester, .338 Federal, or 7mm-08 Federal with only a barrel change.
