The Mateba 2006M is a rare revolver made by Mateba. Unlike the more famous Mateba Autorevolver, the 2006M is not semi-automatic.

History[]

Mateba MTR-6

Mateba MTR-6 models.

The weapon was originally developed as a successor to the Mateba MTR series as the Mateba MTR-6, which featured a hollow grip that contained 6 rounds in a full moon clip, allowing for a quick reload. This version differs from later versions with a different rear sight design, and still had the sliding triggers of the Mateba MTR series.

The design of MTR-6 was updated a few times (the hollow grip was eventually abandoned), and renamed to MTR-6+6 (the name came from the concept that the 6 rounds in the cylinder are supplemented by the 6 rounds in the full moon clip at the base of the grip) and later MTR-6+6M, before being renamed to Mateba 2006 (the name came from a misnomer based on its catalog number) and finally the production version's Mateba 2006M. A variant known as the Mateba 2007S exists, which exclusively uses .38 special and has a 7-round cylinder.

Design[]

The 2006M is the first of Ghisoni's revolvers to use the distinctive 6 o' clock bore position. The cylinder rotates counterclockwise when firing. Compared to the earlier Mateba MTR series, the cylinder is now in a traditional position above the trigger.

The side-opening cylinder hinges upwards, unlike most other revolvers. The cylinder release is, unusually, a rotating lever, which releases the cylinder by swinging the lever forwards.

The Mateba 2006M comes in 8 interchangeable barrel lengths from 2 inches to 6 inches. Grips also come in three different sizes and a fourth ergonomic grip. A barrel weight is present on some rare barrel variations.
