The McLachlan machine carbine was a British submachine gun designed in 1942 by A.S. McLachlan in prototype form only.

History[]

The McLachlan machine carbine was designed by A.S. McLachlan in 1942 and submitted to RSAF Enfield for testing. After testing, the weapon was deemed to be unsuitable for adoption, but mentioned that its inventor should not be discouraged and persuaded to work on similar projects within RSAF Enfield. Few other details of the weapon survive today.

Design Details[]

The McLachlan machine carbine was a blowback submachine gun with a bolt that is "very light"; the lower portion of the bolt is shaped like a rack and keys into a pinion system which rotates a chamber (or "quadrant") in the weapon. The weapon uses a detachable box magazine placed parallel to the barrel, with the chamber picking up rounds from the magazine and moving them into battery.
