  • and would like to see this site grow!

    imo its the best guns forum in www...

    but i have some questions:

    1.how does the DISCUSSIONS page work?(how can i write there?)

    2.is there any possibility, f.e. a special page of this wikia/fandom?, where i can recommend guns that i would like to see in this wikia/fandom? (maybe just here in your message wall?)

    3.i dont have much time now to create pages for guns.fandom.com, but i have info to share with you that could help to improve this wikia...

    like some internet sites where you can find great gun-graphics or infos about new guns, etc

    so how can i make you know about these sites?, just leaving the URLs here in your message wall?

    ok, thats all for now...thanks

  • Where did you find information about the "noiseless" machine gun powered by a 7hp engine?

  • He's been creating fanon/nonsense pages on the CoD Wiki as well (some of which I cleaned up yesterday), that's not a one-off disruption. So yeah, if he does it again here, it would only make sense to ban him.

    On another note, would you mind giving me admin rights? I assume the reason why I didn't receive them alongside the others is because my activity kind of stagnated during that time, but now I've been back for a while, and the rights would come in handy to me for dealing with troublesome users and other important tasks, especially during the times when some other sysops aren't active.

  • So I'm looking at your tags, and I'm noticing you don't have the generic "admin", "bureaucrat" tags. And I was wondering how you were able to do that and if you could show me? I'm assuming that it was through the CSS panel in the admin dashboard, but correct me if I'm wrong.

  • You might have noticed I've been uploading every image twice. This is because I've been having a strange issue (and keep forgetting) wherein when I upload an image which doesn't have a file extension as part of its filename, clicking to view the image at full size downloads it as an "octet stream" file, which is basically a broswer's "I don't know" file type. Is this happening throughout Wikia, or just to me? Using Chrome with adblock plus, if that makes any difference.

  • At present infobox: autocannon has a bugged field: the fields for maximum effective range and maximum firing range both use a value called "range," which means that only maximum firing range appears on the template, but if anything is put in that field it will appear twice.

    If I might make a recommendation, that template could also use an "AA ceiling" field since a lot of AA autocannons have an effective height limit that can be sourced.

    Also, could we add "minimum range" and "maximum altitude" to the standard firearm infobox template? I know it mainly applies to missiles (especially the second), but there's a few other systems like grenade launchers that use a minimum arming range for HE rounds.

  • I know a page for every gun law would get very silly very quickly, but would it be appropriate to have a page on the National Firearms Act? It's kind of what defines gun classification in the US (badly) after all.

      It might be appropriate... considering the amount of political debate that goes on here. (and yes, too many will get silly quickly)

    • To clarify, though, we don't base our classifications on American law, so just because something is classed as a "pistol" or "semi-automatic" under US legal definition, that doesn't mean we'll always class things based on that.

      Seconded.

    • Oh yeah, under US law a pistol can't be a smoothbore and a shotgun has to have a stock or it isn't a shotgun, and only the serial number bearing part of a gun is actually a gun but a bent piece of metal can be a machine gun. It's all very silly.

  • Under "what defines a gun" in the policies, "missiles" are included in the list of things that aren't guns. My take on this is that missiles alone (eg Hellfire, Maverick, Harpoon) don't get pages, but we could have a page for a missile with an infantry launch system (eg Javelin, TOW, Dragon). So I'd like to ask:

    • Is that correct;
    • If so, does that include infantry-portable box or firing rail launched missiles like the ENTAC or AT-3 Sagger;
    • In the case of Soviet missile systems, should the article title be the NATO codename (eg "AT-3 Sagger"), name of the missile ("9M14 Malutyka") or complete system ("9K11 Malyutka," though this is the name of a manpack system with 1 control unit and 2 missiles)?

      You've pretty much got the interpretation correct. The rule is also quite vague in box/rail-launched missiles so I won't really make any comment on the second regard.

    • Ah, ok. I added a third point regarding article names for Soviet systems.

      Third point: I'd much rather it be either the name of the missile or the complete system. NATO names can be in the AKA section.

  • So, apparently, there is a .75 caliber Nitro Express cartridge. No information about it on Wikipedia, but Municion.org has a page about it.

  • The Mp34 aka the Steyr Solothurn S1-100 was made in several other calibers in the early 1930’s for Export to different countries around the world. For Asia and South American it was chambered for 7.63 Mauser. Also for South America it was chambered in 45 ACP. Very few of these guns were made. Maybe somewhere between 500 and 1000. Some reports say less than 500 45ACP Guns in total were made. There were reports that Portugal purchased a few guns in 45ACP also. Very few records are available of which guns were shipped to where.

    In Wikipedia they state the 9mm Mauser Export cartridge is 32.8 The correct length is over 35mm long. I have one box of original 9mm Mauser Export cartridges that has two 8 round stripper clips in it. I have had several thousand cartridges made.Those cartridges came in at 1362 feet per second. The 9mm Mauser Export was a common machine gun cartridge in the 1930’s. The Swiss, Hungarian’s and the Austrian’s all made made guns to order in the 9 Mauser Export. The 9mm Mauser Export is a far better cartridge than the 9mm Luger due to the performance of the 9mm Mauser Export. Having personally shot both cartridges there is no comparison. The 9mm Mauser is equal or superior to the U.S. 357 magnum!

    I have read modern writers say that the Mp34’s were over engineered.People now tend to forget that everything had to be built to last back then. There were very few repair facilities in some of those parts of the world that could even perform some of the simplest of repairs.

    I am very pleased that you have an incredible interest in these uncommon older guns, that were extremely well made and stayed in limited use till the 1970’s. Thank you for taking the time to read my reply!
