The Montigny Mitrailleuse. Was an early typed of crank-operated machine gun. Designed by the one and only Jospeh Montigny between 1859 and 1870.
It's basically an improved version of the Mitrailleus. Which was invented by the Captain Fafschamp In 1851 in which was just basically a fixed version of the 50-barreled volley gun.
The Montigny mitrailleuse was designed to defend narrow defensive position, example: Moats of fortresses. Later on, the Belgium army initially purchased the Fafschamp volley gun. Later on they acquire Montigny mitrailleuse.
