The Imperial Military Nagoya Arsenal (陸軍造兵廠名古屋工廠 Rikugun Zōheishō Nagoya Kōshō), better known as Nagoya Arsenal (名古屋工廠 Nagoya Kōshō) was a Japanese state-owned combine of five military industrial facilities located in the various wards of the city of Nagoya.
History[]
Established in 1923, Nagoya Arsenal handled the research, development, and production of many new weapons during the 1920s and 30s and was, along with Kokura Arsenal, one of the main suppliers of small arms for the Imperial Japanese Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II. The arsenal consisted of factories in Atsuta, Kōzō, Toriimatsu and Tachikawa and one administrative facility in Takarai (today Kasugai).
After Japan's defeat and occupation by the United States in 1945, Nagoya Arsenal was shut down. At present, ÆON Mall Atsuta is located where Kōzō Arsenal used to stand and the Nagoya City Gymnasium and the Jingu Higashi Park are located where Atsuta Arsenal used to stand.
