The OKG-40 Iskra (ОКГ-40 Искра, lit. "spark"), also known as the TKB-048, is a Soviet prototype grenade launcher.

History[]

The OKG-40 was developed for covering distances longer than a grenade thrown by a human and covering the minimum range that could be covered by a mortar, and for one to be easily affixed to a rifle, in this case, the AKM. The grenades could punch through 50mm armor if fired at the right angle, but during tests, the OKG-40 performed poorly and work was halted indefinitely by 1970.

Design Details[]

The OKG-40 is a muzzle-loaded underbarrel grenade launcher.

Ammunition[]

The OKG-40 used a special type of 43mm grenade.

Trivia[]

  • The OKG-40 is widely considered to be the first Russian grenade launcher, and the first underbarrel grenade launcher to be designed as a whole.
