The OTs-33 Pernach (Cyrillic: ОЦ-33 Пернач, lit. "mace") is a Russian machine pistol designed by Igor Stechkin, A.V. Baltser and A.V. Zinchenko in 1995 and produced by TsKIB SOO since 1996.

History[]

The OTs-33 was initially designed in 1995 as the AP SBZ-2 (Cyrillic: АП СБЗ-2), with the name being taken from the three designers of the weapon (Stechkin, Baltser, Zinchenko).[1] The weapon appears to have entered service with some Russian internal forces, replacing the Stechkin automatic pistol.[2]

Design Details[]

The OTs-33 is a blowback machine pistol based on the earlier OTs-23 Drotik, also designed by Stechkin, Baltser and Zinchenko. The weapon is double action and its controls are mostly ambidextrous. A notable feature about the OTs-33 was its ability to attach a folding wireframe stock, similar to the earlier Stechkin automatic pistol; the stock attaches into a recess in the bottom of the pistol grip. The weapon is stated to be more accurate than the OTs-02 Kiparis in a comparative test. The weapon appears to have a buffer system to reduce recoil.[3]
