The RAI Model 300, also known as the Haskins Rifle, is a bolt-action sniper rifle designed by Jerry Haskins between 1981 and 1982, dedicated for military use.
The rifle's single-shot .50 BMG variant, RAI Model 500, is one of the first dedicated .50 BMG anti-materiel rifles.
Design[]
The Model 300 was made with a simplified bolt action based on Haskins' earlier Champlin sporting rifle.
The Model 300 could be chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO and was also used to test the new 8.58×71mm cartridge. The 8.58×71mm cartridge was based on the .416 Rigby cartridge, necked down to use .338 bullets. The round would be adopted by Lapua and eventually evolve into the .338 Lapua Magnum.[1]
The Model 300 was made to be easy to take-down, and easy to convert between calibers by changing the barrel, bolt, and magazine.[2][3]
