The Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield, more commonly referred to as "RSAF Enfield" or simply "Enfield", was a British state-owned firearms manufacturer that was established in 1816. It was responsible for designing and manufacturing much of the British Army's small arms arsenal during its existence, including the current British service rifle, the SA80. In 1984, the factory was privatized and operated independently as Royal Ordnance Plc., and four years later the company went into liquidation. The remaining assets were purchased by BAE Systems.
