The ST Kinetics Compact Personal Weapon (STK CPW for short) is a Singaporean personal defense weapon manufactured by the company ST Kinetics. It can take a variety of cartridges, including 9×19mm Parabellum, 5.7×28mm and 4.6×30mm.

History[]

The CPW follows the current trend for modularity of design, with the intent of providing a compact, yet lethal weapon, intended to replace the roles of both conventional pistols and carbines. The weapon was first showcased at the 2008 Singapore Air Show and apparently faded from existence.

An updated version of the weapon was shown in 2012; this is said to be the final version of the weapon.[1] This updated version was shown again at SHOT Show 2019.[2] This indicates that the CPW may enter production after being in a decade-long developmental hell.

Design[]

The STK CPW is a delayed-blowback operated weapon that fires in semi-automatic and in fully automatic mode. It is made mostly from impact-resistant polymer, with aluminum alloy receiver. Barrel and bolt can be replaced to change the caliber from prototypical 9x19 Parabellum to others (most possible choice being some small-caliber armor piercing round such as 4.6x30 HK or 5.7x28 FN). Of cause, this also will require the use of different magazines, which, in turn, may require replacement of the rear part of the grip. The rear (removable) section of the grip and the magazine body are made from translucent polymer for easy check of remaining ammunition supply. Gun features ambidextrous controls, including safety, fire mode selector, bolt catch release and magazine release. It is fitted with a telescoped buttstock. Sights are installed using integral Picatinny rail on the top of the receiver, with standard being either open sights or red dot. An additional Picatinny rail is provided at the bottom of the gun housing, in front of the trigger guard.

The gun's most notable features include the easy modification of the barrel bolt assembly to utilize different cartridges, completely ambidextrous controls, relatively concealable size with collapsed stock (it can be carried in a holster) and its angled pistol grip which ST Kinetics claims provides enhanced ergonomics and natural aiming.
