The Sterling .308 was a prototype battle rifle designed and manufactured by British firearms company Sterling Armaments.
Overview[]
The .308 prototype was essentially an enlarged Sterling L2A3 submachine gun, chambered for 7.62x51mm NATO. It was fed through a 20-round L4A4 Bren magazine which was not side-fed, unlike the L2A3. It fired from a closed bolt. Two different prototype designs were made during the 1960s; neither were particularly developed weapons, lacking basic features such as a stock.
