The Sumitomo NTK-62 (Japanese: 62式7.62mm機関銃, Rokuni-shiki Nana-ten-rokuni-miri Kikanjū, lit. Type 62 7.62mm Machine Gun) is a 7.62x51mm NATO calibre general purpose machine gun of Japanese origin manufactured by Sumitomo Heavy Industries.
Development[]
The NTK-62 was designed in 1954 at Nittoku Metal Industry (NTK) by Masaya Kawamura under requirements of the Japanese Defence Agency. First examples were made in 1962 replacing the Browning M1919A4 in the JGSDF.
Overview[]
The NTK-62 is a gas operated 7.62x51mm NATO calibre general purpose machine gun. The weapon uses a tilting bolt to lock the chamber and is fired from an open bolt. The belt feed is unusual as the pivoting lever is above the bolt in the receiver as most machine guns have it found in the feed cover.
