The TKB-072 was an assault rifle designed in 1975 by German A. Korobov.
History
The rifle was developed in 1975, and it was unique in that it was supposed to improve accuracy when shot from "unorthodox positions", such as when lying prone. The rifle was submitted for tests later on in the 1970s, in which it met all requirements set by the judges. However, in a later competition, the Ministry of Defense Industry requested Korobov to submit a simplified version of the weapon, and as such, he created the TKB-072-1. Unfortunately, the weapon had a very complicated mechanism used to switch fire modes, and as such, the weapon was removed from testing altogether.
Design details
The weapon used a recoil control system similar to the BARS system used in certain Russian prototypes. This enabled it to fire without too many accuracy problems while held improperly. All the weapon's controls are located on the right of the weapon, including the charging handle and selector switch. Much like the previous TKB-022, it had a vertically moving bolt and u-shaped rammer extractor with a very unusual ambidextrous ejection port chute between the pistol grip and trigger guard.
