The WKW Wilk (Wielkokalibrowy Karabin Wyborowy, High-caliber sniper rifle, Wilk is wolf), known as the Tor in Polish service, is a Polish anti-materiel rifle.
History[]
In late 1999, it was decided that a new high-caliber sniper rifle would be introduced into the Polish army; the design was approved in 2000 and the rifle was developed over a period of four years from 2000 to 2004.
During designing, the requirements from the soldiers were analyzed, and it was decided that the best layout for the new rifle was the bullpup layout. It was at that time that the rifle was given the name of WKW Wilk.
The first prototypes were ready by 2002, and they were first trialed the same year. After being trialed, various parts of the weapon were changed; in the years to come, more trials were conducted and more changes were made. In 2005, the first ten rifles were order for the army via Poland's Ministry of National Defense, and as such, was renamed the Tor. Another 30 rifles were ordered in 2008.
Design Details[]
The Wilk is a bullpup bolt-action sniper rifle fed from 7-round detachable box magazines. The weapon has a front-mounted bipod and an adjustable monopod at the rear. A Picatinny rail is located on the top, which is able to fit a telescopic sight. The Wilk uses a Schmidt & Bender X3−12 P/MII telescopic sight as standard.
